Sometimes there is only one way to beat a hangover
Whether it is a family ritual, sustenance to start the day, or to impress a new lover, a good breakfast plays myriad roles, and Hanoi has many fine ones to hand. Some folk go for a traditional bun cha, others for a crusty banh mi on the go, while a few prefer nothing but a strong Vietnamese coffee to kickstart the day. Here at Chào, we usually need a breakfast of hangover-busting qualities, and sometimes nothing other than a full English will do.
Feeling a little hazy, we decided to check out the Republic in Tay Ho to see if their English bellybuster could get us back in gear. They nailed it. Simply put, the Republic’s English breakfast (195, 000 VND) is one of the best in Hanoi (and we have had a few).
” With uplifting views of the West Lake and outdoor seating bringing a gentle breeze to nudge you awake, the Republic offers an ideal location to idle away a lazy morning. “
Buying a full English in Asia can come fraught with risks, local chefs not always fully familiar with the primal essence of the meal. But the Republic quickly put our fears to rest, barely putting a foot wrong. Their offering comes with two eggs, solid cuts of bacon, decent pork sausages, a dollop of baked beans, mushrooms, a sweet grilled tomato, homemade hash brown and buttered toast.
With uplifting views of the West Lake and outdoor seating bringing a gentle breeze to nudge you awake, the Republic offers an ideal location to idle away a lazy morning. They even make a punchy bloody Mary (extra Worcester sauce and Tabasco available for those that like them just right).
For those wanting to breakfast a little lighter, they also offer coffee served with a choice of croissant, pain au chocolat or a Danish pastry (90,000 VND).
With a strong selection of craft beers and ciders, regular wine deals as well as several screens showing live sport, the Republic is an excellent spot to kill a morning hangover, or perhaps get started on making a brand new one.
