Under an initiative
by the Vietnam Coalition for Climate Action (VCCA), 1,000 houses will be
provided with sustainable energy solutions by the end of 2020, according to DTI News.
The ‘millions of green houses’ initiative was created in part by the VCCA and GreenID, a local NGO in Sept 2019. The goal of the initiative is to increase the use of efficient energy and create rooftop photovoltaic power stations in 1 million houses and buildings nationwide by 2030.
Rooftop solar panels, solar water heaters, biogas and energy-saving LED lights have been installed in more than 430 households in Dak Lak and Ca Mau provinces, said Nguy Thi Khanh, the director of GreenID.
In a school in Dak Lak, a reverse osmosis water purifying system that uses solar energy was constructed to give access to clean drinking water to 500 students.
People who live
in isolated areas with little access to the national power grid will garner
positive results from this project in regards to sustainable energy, effective treatment
of agricultural waste and the protection of the environment.
In Hanoi, households
can choose to participate by reducing energy expenses and selling electricity
to Vietnam Electricity.
“Our mission is to promote win-win co-operation among stakeholders including customers, providers, researchers and authorities to reduce costs and come up with more green solutions. In 2020, the project will expand to central provinces,” said Khanh.
A representative of SolarBK, Tran Huong Thao, said they assisted in constructing rooftop solar panels on more than 90 households in Hanoi in partnership with GreenID. Working with banks, SolarBK has been able to offer participating households micro financing packages and give a maximum of 9 million VND as assistance.
“We hope to better raise awareness of Hanoi’s residents about the project and develop a wide range of products to best suit people’s demands,” Thao said.
Registering for participation is very easy according to participant, Vu Dai Thang, and all the information and membership material can be found on the project’s website.
