Hanoi will continue to keep schools closed after the city confirmed its first case of Covid-19 Friday, according to a DTI News report.
Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that the precise date for schools re-opening would be decided on March 15 at a people’s committee party meeting.
The decision was made at an emergency meeting on coronavirus prevention and control work on March 7.
At the meeting Hanoi Party Secretary Vuong Dinh Hue said that schools which had reopened must be closed immediately. He also called for the cancellation of unnecessary large group gatherings such as meetings, festivals and ceremonies. Many events have been postponed already, including a tour of Hanoi’s new F1 track.
The new coronavirus case is a 26-year-old Vietnamese woman who had recently returned from travelling in England and Italy, arriving back in Hanoi on March 2.
Vietnam has now had 17 cases of Covid-19, the previous 16 all being discharged after successful treatment and recovery.
In Ho Chi Minh City, students at 12th-grade will return to school next week, while the rest will have a further week off.
