Try your hand at powdered-glass painting
Two Hanoi-based artists are bringing the art of powdered-glass painting to the people of Hanoi
Hanoi is an artistic city that inspires creative and passionate people wanting to make and teach great art. Now two such artists have teamed up to give Hanoians a chance to try their hand at powdered glass painting.
Marta Kisiliczyk is an award-winning internationally-recognized artist specializing in abstract-impressionism, who teaches a number of classes, for children and adults, throughout Hanoi in venues such as Hockett Haus of Crafts in Tay Ho, Hanoi Social Club in the Old Quarter, and an upcoming
series of botanical workshops at MoonYoga.
This week she is teaming up with Mitch Brookman, a renowned Hanoi-based glass and mosaic artist, who has work in the private collections of Johnny Depp, Robert Plant and Carlos Santana, to name but a few. Kisiliczyk and Brookman are working together to run a workshop to teach powdered glass
painting, influenced by botany.
Powdered glass art is a craft technique of creating images using crushed (powdered) glass that you glue on to a board or canvas creating shapes and color patches. It particularly attractive as it has lots of texture and shininess and reflects light beautifully.
“We want people to enrich their lives and think it is important to unlock and use the creative potential we all have,” Kisiliczyk says. “I have been passionate about running different art workshops trying to awaken creative potentials of people in Hanoi and been thinking of collaborating with different artists on some art projects for a while. Mitch’s glass work is astonishing and unique and I am excited that we are going to do something together.”
The class is suitable for beginners as well as more advanced artists, and will be held this Thursday at Hanoi Social Club, a much-loved restaurant in a beautiful 100-year-old French colonial house in the Old Quarter.
The workshop will include all materials, including German luxurious powdered glass, and a
glass of wine with nibbles.
