Tet bonuses in the capital are on the up this Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year bonuses appear to be rising in the capital this year, with the highest reported payout reaching more than VND614 million (US$23,370), according to the Hanoi Department of Home Affairs, Vietnam News has reported.

The department said bonuses are expected to hit record highs, largely driven by the domestic private sector.

The average bonus in the foreign-invested sector stood at VND4.5 million (US$171) per employee, with the highest bonus reaching US$10,880 and the lowest US$38, based on data from more than 300 companies in Hanoi.

Among state-owned single-member limited liability companies, the highest monthly salary was reported at US$1,770 per employee, while the lowest was US$247 per month. The average bonus in this group was US$133, with the highest reaching US$3,920 and the lowest about US$30 per employee.

Meanwhile, joint-stock companies with dominant state ownership reported a maximum salary of US$1,713 and a minimum of US$251 per month.

The average bonus in this group was US$140 per employee, with bonuses ranging from US$1,710 to about US$30.
