Hanoi is set to re-open its schools on May 4, Vietnam News has reported.

The head of the city’s People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said on Wednesday that high schools and universities would open May 4, with secondary schools, primary schools and kindergartens opening a week later on May 11.

Since this morning, 24 localities around the countries have announced plans to reopen schools.

The Deputy Minister for Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do said this Monday that localities had to put the safety and teachers first when planning to reopen, and strictly follow hygiene practices as set down by the Ministry of Health.

This means schools must sanitize premises, provide ample soap and antiseptic handwash, and even minimize the use of air-conditioning units wherever possible.

Large educational gatherings, including field trips and extra classes are currently prohibited until further notice.

Hanoi’s effective lockdown has been eased from Thursday, with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc agreeing to downgrade the city from being at high to medium-risk of the coronavirus.
