Those smoking in prohibited places in Vietnam will face a rise in fines to 500,000 VND from 300,000 as of Nov. 15, VN Express has reported.

According to Nguyen Truong Son, deputy minister of health, this policy was enacted due to previous regulations not being strict enough.

There are also other policies being introduced, such as not having a “No smoking” sign in a non-smoking area, with fines of 3-5 million VND. Retail shops without a “No selling cigarettes to people under 18” sign can be fined 1-3 million VND, and those selling or supplying cigarettes to people under 18 will be fined 3-5 million VND.

Selling cigarettes without labels of health warnings, smuggled cigarettes, and fake cigarettes will be fined in accordance with the law on commercial activities involving fake goods and banned goods.

Forcing others to use tobacco or making someone under 18 buy tobacco will see fines of 500,000 to 1 million VND.
