Vietnam records 34 new cases of Covid-19

The country’s third wave of the virus now makes up more than 10% of total cases

Vietnam confirmed 34 more cases of the coronavirus on Saturday morning, VN Express has reported. The country has now recorded 180 community cases between Jan. 28 -30, over 10% of the total for the previous 12 months.

The new spurt has taken place in two areas, one at Poyun Company factory in Chi Linh City in Hai Duong Province, the other at Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh Province.

This is the fastest growing outbreak since the virus appeared in the country and most likely an nCoV variant from the U.K. the report said. The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology and the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases are sequencing two patients “Patient 1,552” a female worker Poyun in Hai Duong; and “Patient 1,553,” a security employee at Van Don airport). These were the first two patients in the new wave of the epidemic.

The total number of infections across the country is now 1,739, including 35 deaths.

The coronavirus has infected over 100 million people worldwide, killing over 2.2 million. The United States, followed by India and Brazil are the most severely affected countries.
