Tourist destinations like Sapa, Ha Giang, Dalat, and Vung Tau are all full with many localities such as Da Nang and Hoi An even holding events to welcome guests to “storm the ground” at the beginning of the year, VN Express has reported.

Despite the low, foggy, and rainy weather, there was still a large flow of people that poured into Sapa’s city center, causing traffic congestion. Hoang Thi Vuong, Head of Sapa Culture and Information Department, reported that in the three-day long holiday, the town welcomed more than 70,000 visitors. The occupancy rate was 100% at one point.

“We had to queue for four hours to get to the cable car. Guests jostled, pushed and were almost unable to move,” said Lam Tu, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City.

Meanwhile, the number of visitors to Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and Thanh Hoa was higher than usual but not too crowded, the main reason likely the cold weather.

Other cities like Dong Nai, Vung Tau, and Binh Thuan ranged from 20,000 to 30,000 visitors. The country is hopeful for a better year in tourism this year.
