Hanoi conducts rapid mass Covid-19 testing on Danang returnees

Hanoi is performing immediate nCov testing for 21,000 Danang returnees from now until Aug. 1 in a prompt response to curb the latest coronavirus spread, Vn Express has reported.

“We have to use full force to test all 21,063 returnees,” Nguyen Duc Chung, chairman of Hanoi stated on Thursday. “All must be done in three days.”

The health ministry sent text messages, calling all those who have visited Danang since July 1 to self-quarantine, declare their health status and come forward voluntarily. 

Since Wednesday night, Hanoi has closed down bars and put a pause on all social events and large gatherings indefinitely.

As of today, Hanoi has recorded two more official novel cases of Covid-19, a 23-year-old man in Nam Tu Liem district and a 76-year-old man in Hoang Hoa Tham street, Ho Tay district, the report said. Both contracted the virus in Danang city – currently the biggest Covid-19 hotspot in Vietnam.

The country confirmed a further five new coronavirus cases on Thursday evening, all from central Quang Nam Province.

Covid-19 has infected over 17 million people worldwide in over 200 countries and regions, killing over 667,00 people.

Vietnam currently has 90 active cases, for a total of 459, No one has died from the virus in the country so far.
