Vietnam confirms 26 new coronavirus cases

Vietnam confirmed 21 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday evening, taking the tally for the day to 26, VN Express has reported. Twenty of the cases reported in the evening were linked to the central coastal city of Danang, with one cases from overseas.

The country has now had 810 cases in total, including 10 deaths, with 405 ‘active’ cases.

Since locally transmitted cases returned to country on July 25 after going 99 days without any domestic cases, the county has recorded 353 such cases across 13 provinces and regions.

The Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that the risk of the disease spreading further would remain very high for the next two weeks.

Regional and city leaders have specific powers to decide on how to minimize infection rates, and medical facilities have been ordered to stay vigilant in the face of potential new outbreaks, according to the prime minister.

The coronavirus has infected 19.4 million people worldwide in over 200 countries and regions, killing 722,000.
