Hanoi proposes overnight services to revitalize economy

Local governments in the capital are considering having more entertainment services stay open overnight, Vn Express has reported.

The plan will allow for food, entertainment and shopping services around the Old Quarter (Hoan Kiem District) to open through the night, while outdoor events and heritage sites can operate until midnight.

To boost the night-time economy, the bustling district has prepared thorough plans, including cultural programs, street festivals and new infrastructure.

According to the scheme – which will be divided into two phases, the first from now until Aug. 2021 – the walking space in the Old Quarter and cultural space along Phung Hung will be linked with the pedestrian street around Hoan Kiem lake. 

Also, Dong Xuan and Bac Qua markets will be developed into areas rich with specialty dishes. Hang Dao and Hang Giay will be upgraded to best represent the features of each street.

Trang Tien street – known as a luxurious area – would be available to use for fashion shows.

The biggest issue is security and safety concerns. However, experts believe that a continued shortage in nightlife businesses will be an economic mistake, driving potential travelers away.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is considering the resumption of commercial flights to six nearby countries by the end of this month.
