Due to the coronavirus outbreak many universities and schools will extend their closure to Feb. 16, Vietnam News has reported. School representatives will use the additional week to take preventative measures on campuses such as disinfecting classrooms.
Hanoi authorities said schools would reopen on Feb. 17.
Nguyen Huu Do, the deputy minister of education and training, said that there would be a week added to make up for the lost days. The academic year usually ends May 31, but will most likely now end in June.
The only schools in the nation that opened after Tet were in Ben Tre province in the Mekong Delta.
