Vietnam confirms 17 new coronavirus cases

Vietnam registered 17 new cases of the coronavirus on Thursday, Vn Express has reported. Each case arrived in Vietnam on a flight from the United Arab Emirates and was immediately quarantined on arrival.

Eleven of the cases were female and six were male (including three people from the same family).

The youngest case was a newborn baby boy, with the remaining all between 20 and 58 years of age.

All of the patients arrived in Vietnam on Sunday May 3 on flight VN0088, which was repatriating nearly 300 Vietnamese citizens. The flight landed in Can Tho before all patients where quarantined at a dormitory in Bac Lieu Province.

The 17 Covid patients are being treated at Bac Lieu General Hospital.

The new patients take the countries total number of coronavirus cases in Vietnam to 288, with 55 of them “active cases.”

Vietnam has now gone 21 days without any cases of domestic transmission

The coronavirus has infected over 3.7 million people worldwide in over 200 countries and regions, killing over 265,000.
