There are a few things more joyous this time of year than sitting down with the family and watching a Christmas movie. What constitutes a true Christmas film is of course up for debate: “It’s a Wonderful life,” absolutely. “Gremlins,” yes. “Die Hard,” no.
Well, it turns out the French (they are the guys that make exceptional wine and cheese) have made a whole host of exquisite Christmas films. It’s with this in mind that the Institute Francais are putting on a series festive films this week at the wonderful L’Espace theater.
Six films will be shown over the festive period:
“Yellowbird” is a magical story of a tiny orphaned bird has never left the nest and has very little life experience. He tells takes to the flock and endangers them many times on the way to migration.
“Asterix: The Secret of Magic the Potion” tells adventures of three legendary Gauls –Panoramix, Asterix and Obelix–who seek out a good druid to pass on their magic potion recipe.
“A Reindeer’s Journey” focuses on Ailo, a vulnerable newborn reindeer who must smartly fight for the survival in wild world of Lapland.
“Santa & Cie” tells adventures of Santa Claus as he travels in search of miracle cure to save Christmas, after the elves at his toy factory faint from overexertion a couple of days before Christmas.
“The New Adventures of Aladdin” revolves around about Sam and Khaled who disguised as Santa Claus to break into Galeries Lafayette. Unfortunately, Sam gets stuck with a gaggle of children and is forced him to tell them story. So he tells the story of Aladdin in his own unique way.
