News In Brief

Hanoi tax revenues from e-commerce, particularly from businesses using Google, Facebook and YouTube, reached 123 billion VND in 2020, five times higher than 2019, with one woman paying over 23 billion VND, according to Tuoi Tre.

The Hanoi Tax Department said that e-commerce taxes were mostly paid by individuals, and a 28 year old woman from the capital’s Cau Giay District paid 23.4 billion VND (about 1 million U.S. dollars) income tax on revenues of 330 billion VND. She made the money for writing software, which she sold on Google Play and App Store.

Also in 2020, by writing application software, a young taxpayer paid more than 18 billion VND personal income tax from 260 billion VND revenue.

In addition to the two above cases, the Hanoi Tax Department also confirmed that an individual paid more than 7 billion VND of personal income tax from an online business on YouTube and Google.

The Hanoi Tax Department will continue to review, analyze inspection data and check for cases of organizations and individuals doing e-commerce business in Hanoi in 2021.

Individuals who do not comply with inspection and examination decisions, will see the tax department transfer their dossiers to investigating agencies for prosecution in accordance with Vietnamese law.
