A Vietnamese teacher from Huong Can high school was named among 10 finalists in the Global Teachers Prize 2020. The list was announced by the Varkey Foundation on Nov. 11, according to VN Express.
Ha Anh Phuong, who teaches English, is the first Vietnamese teacher and also the youngest to be chosen by Varkey foundation among other nominees from Italy, Brazil, UK, the United States, South Africa, Nigeria, India, Malaysia and Korea.
A woman of the Muong ethnicity, Phuong hard studies have seen her become a renowned educator. Phuong said the nomination title was not only a victory for her, but that it also brought pride to students from mountainous areas and her home country.
Throughout her career, Phuong has made great contributions to Vietnamese education. While teaching ethnic minority children, she also continued to teach online classes for free, so students with difficult backgrounds could have access to knowledge.
She is broadcasting her teaching on television, writing a sketch test book and working with other educators on “Borderless classes” – an online class model.
The Varkey Foundation was established by Sunny Varkey, the founder of GEMS Education. The foundation was started to acknowledge great achievements in education, as well as to provide a better education to every child around the world.
